If you’ve been watching the London Olympics this week you’ve no doubt marveled at the extraordinary abilities of the athletes.  Their inordinate grace, strength, speed and power is a treat to watch.

Why do businesses fail?  Certainly research indicates that lack of capital is one of the reasons.  Another is the inexperience of the founders.  But I believe many businesses fail because of a far more fundamental reason:  They bring nothing new to the party.

When people seek to grow their business they usually look at doing it three ways.

1. They do more marketing.

The truth is, there is no more effective way to grow a business than increasing marketing efforts. If your business is not rocketing along, it is almost always because you aren’t spending enough of your day learning and applying new marketing methods.

Most entrepreneurs don’t spend enough time trying to come up with radically new products.  Why? Because they don’t think they can.  They believe that because they’re in an old, conservative industry, they have no chance of coming up with anything new and different. They feel that everything has been invented. That there’s no new way to do business or design a product or service.

Never before in history has life been so busy.  We have reached the point where no matter how efficient we are there is simply no way to get everything on our To Do list done. As a result of this chronic busyness, workplace stress is at an all time high. (No doubt as a business leader/ entrepreneur you are feeling it).
